Our Community
The worshipping community at St Michael and All Saints includes a number of people who are actively involved within the wider community. For example, there are active links with
The Care Van, the
Eric Liddell Centre and the
Murrayfield Club. There are volunteering opportunities within all of these organisations - information can be found on their web sites.
A number of our congregation are also involved with the wider Scottish Episcopal Church, both at Diocesan and Provincial level. This enables us to keep informed about developments in the Church, both nationally and internationally.
Study
Study groups run each year during Lent and in the Autumn: our most recent Study Course on the Old Testament was well-attended and well-received and it can be viewed by following the links on the left hand side of the page. These are held in the church on Wednesday evenings and following the Mass on Fridays.
There is a monthly house group, the Church Hill Group. The format is usually a talk from a member of the congregation, followed by discussion and Compline (night prayer). New members would be very welcome - more information can be found on the notice board in the church porch.
Charity
The congregation has regular collections to support homelessness projects within the city, as well as occasional collections for particular charities or situations, such as the Children's Society and the Scottish Episcopal Church Overseas Mission.
We also aim to involve the whole church in our charitable activities. For example, in 2010 the children within our congregation collected for
Mary's meals back pack project. Each of our families filled a back pack with basic educational materials. The bags are then taken to children in parts of the world where a lack of access to materials can stop children from gaining an education. The children who are helped by Mary's meals are in countries which have experienced war, poverty, famine or natural disaster.
Music
Musicians from within the congregation are involved with various choirs and ensembles throughout the City, including the
Calton Consort and the
Scottish Chamber Orchestra Chorus. There are occasional concerts and recitals in the church. Details can be found on the
events page of this web site.
