Lent course 2019

This Year's Lent Course will be based on the BBC TV series Broken, written by Jimmy McGovern. The series focuses on the life and ministry Father Michael Kerrigan, a Roman Catholic, priest who, despite past trauma and anxiety about his own inadequacies, attempts to bring the light of Christ into the lives of the people amongst whom he ministers. The series portrays real life at its most gritty and unvarnished, and in doing so raises many questions along the way about how to live faithfully when life is very hard. Many of the themes in this series, death, suicide, abuse, violence etc, are upsetting. It is not for the faint-hearted.

There will be six sessions that will include a screening of an episode of the series (about 1 hr). Each episode has a particular story line. This will be followed by discussion (about 45 minutes). Discussion notes are written by Canon Dr Paula Gooder, Director of Mission Learning & Development, Diocese of Birmingham.
